Oscar Wilde

Oscar Wilde

"Life imitates art far more than art imitates Life."

Oscar Wilde was an irish writer and poet of the 19th century who belongs to the literary style of the aestheticism.
He was born the 16th October 1854 and he died the 30 novembre 1900.
He come from the irish middle-class and he was a brilliant student.
His father was an oculist and his mother was a poet so he's nursed by the poetry and by the writing from the youngest age.
He went in Oxford's university where he was seen like a dandy or a person who likes art. He began to write seriously when he was in London and he met a lot of intelectual people. He published his first poetry's book in 1881 and it was named poems.
His masterpiece is a book named The picture of Dorian gray was published in 1980, it was requested by an american publisher J.M Stoddart for his newspaper. Finally, it was published and very appreciated in america but a lot of english critics were shocked by this book. However it was very well writen, with an extraordinary literary quality but it spoke about a men who sold his soul to the devil and there was to much of explicit homosexuality which was forbidden. Therefore, according to the critics this book was dangerous to the people's minds.
In 1891 he met Lord Alfred Douglas of Squeenberry and he fell in love with him. During some months they lived their love and they showed their homosexuality in public. Alfred's father didn't aprove this relationship and he sent a visit's card with this message:
"For Oscar Wilde posing as Somdomite"
Oscar Wilde was very hurt by this so he lodges a complain against him but he lost and the trial turns around against Wilde and he goes to jail for two years because he's homosexual. During this detention, he could have write but he only wrote a letter to Lord Alfred Douglas. It's very sink and negative. This letter was published but it was signed "De Profundis ".
When he went out of the jail he went to France and he lived in Robert's Ross house, who was one of his friends. He received an Alfred Douglas card, and he found him again. Alfred would never read " De profundis".
Oscar Wilde made all kinds of literature, novels ( The picture of Dorian Gray ), essays ( The critic as artist ), short stories ( The canterville ghost ), plays ( Salome ) and poems.
He was married to Constance Lloyd and he had two childrens Cyril and Vyvyan.
He stays, today, a very influent writer, with an exeptionnel personnality.

The trailer of the movie Witness

The trailer of the movie Witness.

I think this film is about a child who witnesses a crime scene in the toilet.
There is a policeman who investigates the murder, and he needs the child to find the culprit.
I think I have understood that the mother and the child are menbers of the Amish community and the policeman goes with them for his investigation. He meets the family of the woman but I don't think that he is very appreciated by them, certainly because he isn't an Amish.
During the time when the policeman lives with the witness's mother he falls in love with her, and an old man, I don't know who ( maybe the woman's father), is very angry. At the end, I think that the policeman finds the murderer because the child shows a photo of the black man who was in the toilet, and he kisses the woman.

I expect to view a kind of film which would be a mixture of romance with suspense, and with two parallel stories. But I don't think it would have a lot of action except at the beginning. The atmosphere looks quiet and it isn't the usual detective movies's atmosphere. However it can be a good movie to learn things about the Amish community, and according to me it's a very good thing, even if it isn't the authentic reality.

Positive Impact of new technologies

On this photo, there is a blue man, he looks like  happy because he is smiling , with a blue laptop, there are lots of different kind of bubbles with diferent images. In the bubbles we can see : the picture of a woman, an at (@), various post-it, a calendar, a graphic, the picture of a men and a trolley. Behind those images, there is a big grey cloud. This image is blue as if it could be a dream or a thought. The man has an office uniform and a  remarkably long nose. We can guess that he is doing a lot of things at the same time. He is doing things related to this personnal life ( He sends an e-mail to a Woman, he does his shopping, he is checking his e-mails) and to his professional life. For example he settles his dates, he speaks with his boss, he makes his own reminder.

The aim of the cartoonist is to prove the usefulness of the new technologies. Nowadays they enables us to do a lot of things and they are very convenient. Thanks to a computer we can gain a lot of time because we can doing (like the man in the cartoon ) several things in the same times .
We can say too, that enables to a computer we can have all things that we need in a work or to a personal life, and we don't need to transport a lot of material who is very cumbersome and not practice.  The man is in a blue world maybe because even if he is doing sound works, the computer allows him to think of other of things and to put in perspective its task which he does certainly not want to make.
We can say that the new technologies are very practice in particular to work in firms.

I think that this cartoon is true because I use a lot my computer to work but a lot of people became addicted to him in cause of that so according to me it's good to mix both, the new technologies and the paper with a pen.

Date with a teacher

                             MADtv Date with Teacher

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjmpeYASOx0

On this video the scene takes place in a restaurant wich gradually turns into the classroom. The characters are a woman teacher and a young man who is a student we know for sure because the woman behaves like a teacher while, the youngster acts more like a children pupils.

In the video the woman makes puns like: "A doctor are patients, a teacher are patience" wich play with homonymes patients and patience, indeed doctors need patients for makes money and teachers need patience with pupils. An other is "I like everything but your butt". It's a play with "but" and "butt" wich means bottom. And the third is a lesson for may and can because the waiter don't use the good word.

At the moment, the teacher leaves the room and the classroom atmosphere portrayed is very retless because she puts his date alone and the rest of the restaurant starts to bully him because he is a "good boy" an because he was sent a paper on a girl who was next to him.

At the end there is a "black pupil" who explain everythings and teacher wan't there so for a reward she makes him takes her instead her date. It's a revange for a black pupil who catch the teacher attention and can to exceed the date of the teacher. Even though at firs he was innefectual in the video and in the class.

Internet Anonymous

This scene takes place in an office, there are two men, one is sitting at a desk and he has all sorts of electronic tools, a computer, a keyboard, a mouse, a tower and loudspeakers. He looks self-satisfied. Another man is standing up and looks puzzled. They have the same green shirt so we can think that they are colleagues. Below the cartoon there is a sentence said by the men who is sitting. It says: " I'm going to internets Anonymous... We meet in a yahoo chatroom."
The aim of the cartoonist is to criticize the attitude of people who are addicted. It's to make people aware of addiction, and to laugh at the associations for addicted people because "intenets anonymous" looks like "alcoholics anonymous" which is an international association with the purpose of helping people to learn to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety, but for the artist it isn't useful. This drawing is a paradox because the man wants to kick his habit which is internet addiction with a computer, it's a big contradiction and it isn't possible.

This cartoon deals with a very recent issue because there are a lot of alcoholics anonymous and this association is very famous and used. And nowdays more and more people are getting addictied to things, for example videogames, cigarettes, alcohol, phone, etc... So I think that the autor wants to denounce that. I'm not concerned by this cartoon because I'm not an addictive person, I don't want be answerable to anything, for me it's some kind of deprivation of liberty. But, this cartoon is interesting because it's very true. And all internet addicts must see it. For me internet addiction is a real problem in today's society because having a lot of new technologies makes people not interact between each other but they have virtual relations and it's a real shame! But, even so, I think that a computer is a very good tool of work or of entertainment, but in small doses.
